STEEL TYPES
Prince Steel Knives uses two primary types of steel in the production of our throwing knives.
1095 Steel
1095 steel is a basic form of carbon steel commonly used in the construction of many types of knives. It has a carbon content of 0.95%, which helps harden the steel and reduce wear over time.
To keep your 1095 knife rust-free and working for as long as possible, rinse it after each use, wipe it clean, and apply oil once a week. The oil forms a barrier that helps prevent moisture from reaching the steel. It also gives your knife a polished appearance.
80CrV2 Steel
80CrV2 is a traditionally cast, high-carbon tool steel containing chromium and vanadium in quantities high enough to affect the strength and hardness of the steel’s crystalline matrix. Vanadium is commonly added to steel alloys to improve edge retention.
Although sometimes mistaken for a new steel, 80CrV2 has been around for many years under the common nickname “Swedish saw steel.”
A high-carbon chromium-vanadium steel, 80CrV2 is a tough-as-nails workhorse.
It provides the essential qualities of a 1080-series steel, along with many of the benefits associated with a high-chromium steel such as 5160.
